The Tigers charged out to a 20-9 lead after the opening quarter, and they were never challenged on the way to a 78-60 victory.
Combined with Friday’s victory over the Trojans, the Tigers improved to 2-1 in Region 5-AAAA after losing to Alexander in overtime in their region opener.
Troup head coach Thermond Billingslea likes the teamwork his squad is displaying.
“I tell our kids, and I think they believe it, but in order for us to win any ballgame, for us to be in any ballgame, we’ve got to play as a team,” Billingslea said. “We’re too small and too inexperience in certain spots. We have to play as a team.”
The Tigers got a big lift from Demetrius Trammell, who is excelling in his first season as a starter.
Trammell hit six 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 25 points.
“He’s shooting the ball well,” Billingslea said.
Senior Lakeithin Buckner, the team’s leading scorer, added 23 points.
After going up by 11 through one period, Troup was on top 36-23 at the half.
The Blue Devils were staying within shouting distance in the third period, but the Tigers closed the quarter strong to take a 58-38 lead.
Trammell hit a 3-pointer early in the third period to make it a 61-38 game, and the Tigers maintained a healthy lead the rest of the way.
Troup will look for its third consecutive region win when it visits Fayette County Tuesday night.
