The Tigers hung tough for awhile, but Fayette County pulled away late for a 62-48 victory.
Troup (8-6 overall) fell to 2-2 in Region 5-AAAA play, and both region losses have come on the road.
“They were tough up there,” said Troup head coach Thermond Billingslea, who was going for his 500th career win. “We were good in spots, but we hit some rough spots.”
Lakeithin Buckner paced the Tigers with 23 points, and Demetrius Trammell added 12 points.
Billingslea said Fayette County’s outside shooting prowess was the difference in the game.
“They can shoot the ball. They shot it well against us,” Billingslea said. “The inside game wasn’t what hurt us, it was the perimeter folks.”
The Tigers won’t have long to dwell on Tuesday’s loss with a key game against LaGrange coming up Friday night.
“We’ve got some tough ones coming,” Billingslea said. “You’ve got to go back and start working again and prepare for another team.”
In Tuesday’s girls’ game, Troup lost 70-29, with Jessica Gilbert leading the way with 12 points.
