LaGrange Academy’s teams picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday night at home against Harvester Christian.

The Lady Warriors won 49-35 and are now 7-6 and 3-2 in GISA Region 4-AA.

Meanwhile, the Warriors improved to 9-5 and 3-2 in the region with a 70-22 shellacking of Harvester.

The girls’ game stayed close much of the first half, but the second half was decisive as the Lady Warriors put some distance between themselves and the Lady Hawks.

“It was a competitive game going into the second half, but we did a tremendous job in the third quarter of getting stops and playing well defensively,” coach Britt Gaylor said. “They didn’t score very many points in the third quarter.

“I’ve got to say, Brandi Smalls played a tremendous defensive game for us.”

Gaylor remarked that there was a point where neither team was scoring much, then the Lady Warriors went on an 8-0 run to put it out of reach.

Tazsa Garrett-Hammett led all scorers with 26 points while her sister Fannasy Garrett-Hammett chipped in with 14.

In the boys’ game, the Warriors were in control from the opening tip.

“We jumped on them early,” Gaylor noted. “We’re really trying to focus on making sure we perform to a certain standard no matter who we’re playing. We did a good job coming out from the start, taking care of the little things early on and the result showed.

“It was a great defensive effort from everybody tonight. Even our bench guys contributed defensively, so it was a real good effort all the way around.”

Chase Wardlaw led all scorers with 22 points. Mayokun Oshinowo had 14 points and David Park scored 12.

Next up for LaGrange Academy is a pair of region games on the road.

On Friday, both teams play Furtah Academy in Acworth.

On Saturday, they travel to Oak Mountain in Carrollton.
