In a game against Macon County, Callaway scored just 17 points in the 2009-10 season.
In the 2010-11 season, the Lady Cavaliesr scored just eight against St. Francis.
Fortunately for the Lady Cavaliers, times have changed for the better.
Callaway jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Rockmart scored its only point of the first quarter, and the story was much the same throughout the game en route to a 62-9 whitewash victory over visiting Rockmart on Saturday night.
The win gives the Lady Cavs a 10-4 overall record and puts them at 6-2 in Region 4-AAA.
Callaway won just five games last year and two the year before.
The Cavaliers were in charge from the opening tip and it stayed that way throughout the game as coach Deyano Martin platooned his players often against an inexperienced Rockmart club.
Callaway led 17-1 after the first quarter and 36-4 at the half.
Callaway took a 57-4 lead into the fourth quarter after Rockmart failed to score a single point in the third.
Martin says a lot can be learned that can be used in upcoming region games, among them Tuesday’s rematch against Chapel Hill, which is now 15-3 on the season including a 7-1 record in the region.
Callaway lost to the Lady Panthers in its second region game on Jan. 5 by a score of 43-30.
“It’s all about execution,” Martin insists. “I demand that we go out there and execute. Like I told them at half time, it doesn’t matter about this team. I don’t see the team. I see championship teams and some of the stuff we do on the court, I’m thinking will we be able to do that against good quality teams. I’m always yelling at them and always coaching no matter what the score is or how the game looks.”
Rockmart was unable to handle the Callaway pressure throughout as the Lady Cavaliers’ full-court pressure forced one turnover after another.
Rockmart scored five of its points in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Cavaliers were led in scoring by freshman Tanesha Johnson, who had 17 points.
She was followed by Monica Jackson with 11.
