A Columbus man who allegedly sold stolen goods in LaGrange was arrested last week, and police are asking anyone who purchased items from him to turn them in.

LaGrange police on Thursday arrested James Howard Smith, 43, on suspicion of burglary in connection with property stolen in LaGrange. Smith goes by the nickname “C-Town.”

Police said that Smith allegedly committed other burglaries and sold the stolen property to people in LaGrange.

Anyone who purchased items from Smith was encouraged to turn them in to police. Items turned in, and confirmed stolen, will be confiscated, but those who turn items over voluntarily will not be charged with possession of stolen property. Restitution for the items may be requested through the court, police said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact LaGrange police at 706-883-2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000, or text an anonymous tip to 274637 (CRIMES), keyword “LAGRANGE”. Tips also may be submitted online at www.lagrangega.org or www.facebook.com/lagrangepolicedept.

For additional information, or anyone who needs to confirm that they bought stolen property, may contact detective Christopher Pritchett at 706-883-2673 or Sgt. Robert Kirby at 706-883-2614.
