The cold, dark days of winter once again will be infused with artistic energy as the second annual For Love of the Arts Celebration casts a bright light on the arts in LaGrange.

Running Feb. 7 through 17, this 10-day celebration of music, visual and cultural arts offerings provides visitors with the best of the arts and the region’s culture in one location.

Presented by collaborating partners, LaGrange Art Museum, Friends of the LaGrange Memorial Library, LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, Lafayette Society for Performing Arts and Legacy Museum on Main, there are events designed to appeal to arts lovers across the region.

Performing arts enthusiasts may enjoy an evening of music with the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra or a play at the Lafayette Society for Performing Arts’ Black Box Theatre. Those who enjoy a tall tale will relish in storytellers Carol Cain and Chetter Galloway as they bring laughter and reflection to an afternoon of stories from the past at the LaGrange Memorial Library.

For fans of the visual arts, a celebration of wedding traditions - past and present - will be at Legacy Museum on Main, or celebrate Valentine’s weekend with champagne and a glimpse at photos of some Hollywood stars at the LaGrange Art Museum.

Here are a few events that will be held in conjunction with this year’s For Love of the Arts:

Feb. 1-April 20

Legacy Museum on Main, 136 Main St. in LaGrange, hosts the exhibit Weddings of West Georgia: Something Old, Something New with wedding dresses, shoes, veils, announcements, invitations and newspaper reports used to spotlight love and weddings in West Georgia from the 1800s to the present. Admission is free. An opening reception and wedding tea is Feb. 16 from 2-4 p.m. The museum is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free of charge. Feb 7-9, Feb. 15-17

Lafayette Society for Performing Arts presents “Hot l Baltimore,” Feb. 7-9, 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 17 at 2:30 p.m. at the LSPA Black Box Theater, 214 Bull St. The play, set in the lobby of the Hotel Baltimore, focuses on residents of the decaying property faced with eviction. Attendees may bring their own fare and beverages for a dinner theater. Tickets are available at the theater or by contacting LSPA at lafayettesociety@bellsouth.net or 706-882-9909.

Feb. 9

LaGrange Symphony Orchestra presents An Evening with Jason Coleman at 7:30 p.m. in the Callaway Auditorium, 801 Dallis St., on the campus of LaGrange College. Coleman and the LSO will play a nostalgic lineup of country, pop and easy listening standards. Coleman is the grandson of legendary keyboardist Floyd Kramer. Reservations must be made by Jan. 31 for Denim and Diamonds, a casual buffet dinner held at Highland Country Club at 5 p.m. before the show. Cost for the dinner is $30 and seating is limited.

Feb. 14

LaGrange College in partnership with the LaGrange Art Museum hosts a Hollywood photography lecture with noted Hollywood celebrity photographer Douglas Kirkland at 11:15 a.m. in the Dickson Assembly Room, Turner Hall at the college. dbriggs@lagrange.edu, 706-880-8211

LaGrange Civic Chorale hosts Skylark, a Valentine’s Dinner and Dance celebrating the Music of Johnny Mercer, with Billy Kravtin and the Fidelity Jazz Quartet at 6 p.m. at Highland Country Club. For tickets, email choralsociety@charter.net or call 706-882-2734.

Feb. 15

LaGrange Art Museum hosts an opening reception featuring the photography of noted Hollywood celebrity photographer Douglas Kirkland at the Cochran Gallery at 7 p.m. The Smithsonian-recognized, intimate stage and footlight photography of Atlanta-based Motown photographer Jim Alexander will be shown at LaGrange College’s Lamar Dodd Art Center.
