The LaGrange Grangers, coming off back-to-back poor offensive performances, found their shooting range Saturday afternoon against Columbus.

Behind a 20-point effort from Justyn Olson, LaGrange cruised to an 82-53 victory, and they more than doubled the offensive output they had in the previous two games combined.

The Grangers (14-5 overall) improved to 5-3 in Region 5-AAAA.

“It was nice to see some kids hit some shots,” LaGrange head coach Mike Pauley said. “We haven’t had guys do that.”

After a Joe Sanders basket got things started, Olson scored five straight points and hit a 3-pointer to give the Grangers a 7-0 lead.

The Grangers continued to do a solid job on the offensive end, and Pauley said a lot of credit for that goes to the inside duo of Joe Sanders and Don Leak, who combined for 21 points.

“Don and Joe really had a commanding presence. They were very aggressive inside,” Pauley said. “Don really played well.”

Leak finished with 12 points, and Sanders added nine.

Kwame Brown, who didn’t hit a shot the previous night against Shaw, had 11 points, and Baron Smith scored 10 points.

After falling behind big early, the Blue Devils fought back and trailed 18-15 after the first quarter.

The Blue Devils were within a point with less than three minutes to go in the half, but the Grangers closed the quarter on a 9-3 run.

Olson’s 3-pointer with seven seconds left in the half gave LaGrange a 35-28 lead.

The Grangers put it away in the third period, outscoring the Blue Devils 23-9 to build a 58-37 lead.

The Grangers continued to pour it on in the fourth quarter, and they eventually won by 29 points.

LaGrange will visit Alexander on Tuesday.
