The Callaway High baseball team will make its season debut today, a couple of days later than expected.

The Cavaliers were supposed to open their season on Saturday, but the game against Handley (Ala.) was postponed because of all the water the field had absorbed.

If the weather cooperates, the Cavaliers will hit the field for the first time in an official game against Harris County today at 5:30 p.m. at home.

Callaway played LaGrange on Feb. 15, but that was a preseason game.

Today would mark the official season opener for the Cavaliers, who are coming off a strong season that ended with an appearance in the state quarterfinals.

Today’s game kicks off a busy week for the Cavaliers, who are scheduled to play six games in six days.

On Tuesday, Callaway will visit Pike County for a 5:30 p.m. game.

On Friday, Callaway will play two games in the LaGrange Toyota Invitational.

Callaway will play Eagles View (Fla.) at 3 p.m. and Grayson at 8 p.m.

Callaway will play two more games on Saturday, beginning with a 12:30 p.m. matchup with Cullman (Ala.).

Callaway will play in a place game later on Saturday.

The Troup Tigers, who split their first two games last week, have two games on the schedule this week.

The Tigers will visit East Coweta on Tuesday, and they’ll travel across the state line on Thursday to face Opelika (Ala.).

Troup opened its season with a 2-0 victory over Northgate before falling to Newnan 1-0.

Troup’s pitchers haven’t given up an earned run in two games.

LaGrange, meanwhile, has played two games, and it lost them both by one run.

In a doubleheader in Columbus last week, LaGrange lost to Northside 5-4 and to Hardaway 3-2 in nine innings.

The Grangers were supposed to make their home debut on Friday, but their game against Harris County was rained out.

LaGrange’s next game will be at home against Russell County at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the opening game of the LaGrange Toyota Invitational.

LaGrange will then play Crisp County at 8 p.m. on Friday before facing Lambert at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The Grangers’ fourth tournament game will be in a place game later on Saturday.
