One jumped up and turned towards Spirit, wishing she’d stand still for just one moment, and repeated what he had just said, “why do they continue to condemn, argue over who’s right and who’s wrong - when will they understand ‘I am’ no matter how each paints me?” Spirit, moving as she always does replied, “it’s that ‘freedom of thought’ thing you were so insistent on giving them on creation – it twists reality, complicates the simplistic, and blinds them to the light of truth.” One, sighing and returning to his throne sits and replied, “so many concepts, bigoted separations based on self-serving creeds, confessions, and carefully-worded belief statements. Will they ever join hands, look inside of themselves and realize there is one me – no matter how they perceive me, no matter the manifestations – ‘I am’, I am One.”
Spirit, while passing One, looked back and replied, “perhaps never – for them to comprehend who you are One will require that they first understand themselves and then the collective-purpose of humanity, the love of others is greater than the love of self – given that thought, yes, perhaps never.” One stood, after a couple of steps (which brought him close to creation) he replied, “tell me then Spirit – how do we, we who collectively caused creation, help humanity to both understand and embrace their call to life?” Spirit replied – “perhaps we can encourage them to listen to some of the greatest spiritual humans creation has experienced and their words of wisdom.” One said softly, “give me example.” And so it was that Spirit shared the following:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened.” Jesus. “There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way.” Buddha. “I can see that in the midst of death life persists, in the midst of untruth, truth persists, in the midst of darkness, light persist. Hence I gather that God is Life, Truth, Light, He is Love, He is the supreme good.” Mohandas Gandhi. God is One.
And Spirit continued: “The spiritual journey is individual, highly personal. It can’t be organized or regulated. It isn’t true that everyone should follow one path. Listen to your own truth.” Ram Dass. “This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.” Dalia Lama. “Even as the fingers of the two hands are equal, so are human beings equal to one another. No one has any right, nor any preference to claim over another. You are brothers.” Muhammad. Wisdoms are One.
One, returning to his throne heaving a sigh and leaning towards creation, responded to Spirit’s shared “words of wisdom”. One whispered, “each of these spirited humans have many who follow them, so how is it that there is so much anger and hate between them as obvious it is that they share the same truths?” Spirit replied, “each truth is twisted to bend the words of others so that the few who claim authority can control the many who simply seek hope, faith, and love. Humankinds sense of control remains centered on self while diminishing the value of others.” One, once again begins to sob. If you are quiet – you can hear One’s cry in the moans of dying children and the torment of war. We should be One.
