Eagle’s View didn’t have a chance, not the way Callaway’s Kane Keith was throwing.

On a frigid Friday afternoon, Callaway and Eagle’s View locked horns in the LaGrange Toyota Invitational, and Keith put on a show in a 6-0 victory.

The senior left-hander gave up back-to-back singles leading off the game, but he was all but untouchable after that.

When Keith struck out the final batter he faced, it put an exclamation mark on a remarkable performance.

Keith went seven innings to get the shutout victory, and he only gave up four hits while striking out 13 batters.

“I haven’t seen him too many times sharper than that,” Callaway head coach Dusty Hubbard said. “He had three pitches he could throw for a strike. He had them eating out of his hand.”

As the game went along, Keith felt like he had everything working.

“I was throwing my pitches, and I knew they were good,” Keith said. “I believed in them. I knew that team wasn’t going to beat me. I was going to give them everything I had, and that’s what I did.”

Keith felt getting out of the first inning without surrendering a run was big.

“The first inning, that was clutch,” Keith said. “The game could have gone the opposite direction, and it went our way.”

After the first inning, the Warriors never had a serious threat again.

“He’s not overly hard with his fastball, but he’s sneaky fast. They couldn’t ever time it up,” Hubbard said. “And when you can throw three for a strike, where you want to throw them, you are going to be tough to beat.”

As good as Keith was, he was matched for five innings by Eagle’s View pitcher Hunter Brown.

Keith had confidence the Cavaliers would eventually get it going offensively, though, and he was right.

With Keith doing a lot of the damage with two hits in the sixth inning, the Cavaliers scored six runs to break it open.

“I knew that if I kept our team in the game, that we would eventually break through,” Keith said.

The Cavaliers also had a terrific defensive effort behind Keith with no errors.

“My defense played a good game. They were solid. No errors,” Keith said. “You can’t complain about that.”

As well as things went Friday, Keith said he’ll quickly put the game behind him and start focusing on his next start.

“You’re only as good as you are that day,” Keith said. “In baseball, you have to know how to forget.”
