The LaGrange Symphony Orchestra continues its 2012-2013 concert series with “Westward Ho!” at 7:30 p.m. March 12 in Callaway Auditorium. The program includes a special side-by-side performance with the LaGrange Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the LSO debut of local favorites Re-Generation.

The concert also includes themes from Magnificent Seven, Rawhide, Bonanza, and Stagecoach; Copland’s Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes, On the Trail from Grofe’s Grand Canyon Suite and other favorites with a western theme.

The LaGrange Symphony Youth Orchestra will join the LSO in a special side-by-side performance of Copland’s Hoe Down.

“This is a great opportunity for the younger players to experience the thrill of playing with the adult orchestra. We are very excited to showcase the youth orchestra during the concert,” said interim director Celeste Myall.

Re-Generation, consisting of Mac McGowan, Sim Crisler, Dee Woodward, Mike Moncus, Jeff Sargent and George Petruff, has been entertaining local audiences for years with their delightful mix of instrumental and vocal performances. In their LSO debut, the group will perform a selection from Songs of the West arranged by noted American choral director Norman Luboff.

The group grew up in the era when folk songs were all the rage. They learned to play and sing many of the songs from that time period with a focus on performing folk and popular songs that were popular during the 50s, 60s and 70s.

“It is a privilege and an honor for Re-Generation to be on the same program with the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra and some of the best musicians in West Georgia,” said Dee Woodward. “I hope the audience will really enjoy the whole Western atmosphere that the Symphony and Re-Generation create on March 12th.”

Tickets may be purchased in advance from the Symphony office by calling 706-882-0662 prior to the day of the concert. Tickets will also be sold at the Callaway Auditorium box office beginning at 7 p.m. the night of the concert. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and concertgoers were encouraged to arrive early.

Adult tickets are $25 for Mezzanine seating and $15 for seats in the orchestra and gallery. Special value seats in the first four rows of the orchestra section are available for $5. All tickets for students sixth grade and older are $5. Children fifth grade and younger are admitted free with an adult.
