Money stolen

An envelope containing $1,000 was stolen from a Tall Pines Apartment unit at 150 Turner Street Thursday morning. The owner said the money was for a new apartment. She also said she had a scheduled visit from maintenance man who had keys to the apartment that morning. The owner’s neighbor said she saw the maintenance man standing next to the victim’s door holding a toilet plunger. Police weren’t able to confirm anything said.

Burglaries, theft

A thief damaged a padlock securing the rear door of a residence in the 300 block of Mitchell Avenue Thursday night and stole $380 from a pillow case and some clothing.

A thief stole several packages of meat valued at $100 and some clothing valued at $150 from a residence in the 100 block of Fendig Street Thursday night.

A lawnmower valued at $350 was stolen from the 900 block of Juniper Street.

Vandalism

A thief caused an estimated $4,000 of damage to a vintage 1966 Pontiac Catalina in the 500 block of Jenkins Street on Thursday night. Damage included the vehicle’s front and side windows.

Arrests

West Point police charged Dontavious Heard, 19, of West Point with false imprisonment, simple battery, second degree of cruelty to children and aggravated stalking.

School bus catches fire

A school bus belonging to Harris County Schools caught fire at the driver’s house this morning, Troup County firefighters said.

No children were on the bus and the incident on Mount Laurel Road was called in about 5:30 a.m.

Firefighters said the cause is undetermined, but the bus is a total loss.
