Text messages led officers to arrest a man this weekend on charges including intent to sell marijuana.

A LaGrange police report says that officers were patrolling the area of McGregor Street on Friday, when they saw a male matching the description of a wanted subject go into an apartment in the 200 block of McGregor Street.

Officer Jason Lawson walked towards the door of the apartment and said he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from within. When he arrived at the door, a male exited the apartment. Lawson reached for the handle of the door and said he identified himself as an officer. A male grabbed the door from the inside and slammed it shut, pushing Lawson onto the sidewalk.

Lawson said in the report that he feared the occupants may try to destroy evidence, so he entered the apartment.

The male subject, later identified as Carlos Demorris Lindsey, 25, of LaGrange, walked towards the kitchen area and Lawson commanded him to come into the living room with his hands up. Lindsey complied and was handcuffed.

After other officers arrived, Lawson searched the residence then walked the path towards the kitchen where Lindsey had walked. Lawson said he located a partially smoked marijuana blunt in an ash tray and a clear plastic bag containing about an ounce of suspected marijuana lying in the floor inside the closet.

Lindsey’s cell phone allegedly had text messages that led officers to believe that he was involved in selling marijuana.

Lindsey was placed into a patrol vehicle, but said he was sick and began throwing up. AMR was called and transported him to the West Georgia Medical Center where he was admitted.

Once released, he was arrested Sunday and taken to Troup County Jail on charges of marijuana possession, possession with intent to distribute, intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and obstruction.
