From staff reports

Troup County firefighters defeated LaGrange police and fire departments in a ‘friendly rivalry’ basketball game that raised several hundred dollars for the Wolverines wheelchair sports team Monday at LaGrange High School.

Proceeds went toward competition expenses of the Wolverines team, sponsored by Roosevelt-Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation. The specially made basketball wheelchairs, for example, cost as much as $1,600 each.

‘It was fun, a good game and we were glad to help,’ said Rick Smith, who coordinated the event for the Troup Fire Department.
