The twice-delayed Granger Invitational should finally be able to kick off today.
The boys’ golf tournament, which has been postponed twice because of bad weather, is set to tee off at 3:05 p.m. today at Highland Country Club.
Among the teams participating are the LaGrange Grangers and Troup Ti-gers.
The Grangers tuned up for the tournament by competing in the Trojan Invitational in Carrollton on Monday, and they finished fourth.
Charlie Martin led the way with a 79, and John Jackson shot an 82.
Camp Jennings was next with an 86, and Bo Bradford rounded out the scoring with a 92.
Max Kirby shot a 93.
LaGrange High’s boys’ and girls’ teams will return to the course on Monday for the Region 2-AAA tournament.
The boys’ tournament, which also includes Troup, will be played at Highland Country Club.
The girls’ tournament will be played at Bull Creek in Columbus.
For the Lady Grangers, junior Caitlin Watts will try to win her third consecutive region title.
Last year, Watts went on to capture the Class AAA state championship.
In other high school golf news, Callaway High will host the Region 5-AA tournament at Overlook Golf Links on Monday.
The 18-hole tournament begins at 9 a.m.
In college golf, LaGrange College’s players will have a busy day today.
The Panthers are participating in the Emory Invitational, which was set to begin Monday at Stone Mountain.
Rain and wind kept the players from getting on the course, though, so all 36 holes of the tournament will be played today.
TENNIS: The LaGrange and Carrollton tennis teams fought to the wire on Monday, with each school earning a victory.
LaGrange won the girls’ match 3-2, and the Carrollton boys won 3-2.
For the Lady Grangers, LaGrange got a win from Allison Branch at No. 2 singles, while both doubles teams won.
Katie Ward and Gabby Callaway won at No. 1doubles, and Georgia Mignon Major and Megan Hale prevailed at No. 2 doubles.
Linda He and Sydnie Cheplick fell short at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
In the boys’ match, Jake Pauley delivered a win at No. 1 singles, with LaGrange’s Rohan Gupta and Henry Hughes dropping their singles matches.
LaGrange’s Glen Major and Scottie McRae won at No. 2 doubles, but Parker Quinn and Jake Shambaugh fell at No. 2 doubles.
In an extra doubles match, Sam Craig and James Jackson won 8-4.
LaGrange, along with Troup High, will compete in the Region 2-AAA tournament Wednesday and Thursday in Columbus.
