“Mama Jama,” LaGrange Mayor Jeff Lukken and the Cat in the Hat are just some of the guests who will be reading to children Wednesday on Lafayette Square.
In recognition of the Week of the Young Child, Troup County Schools’ pre-K program, Troup BELL and United Way Success By 6 are sponsoring “Read around the Square from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs, said Teresa Moore, United Way of West Georgia’s Success By 6 coordinator.
Families may visit the square and take a blanket and book to share. Success By 6 will have sidewalk chalk for children to decorate the square with and balloons to give away.
Troup BELL: “Building Early Learners for Life,” formed earlier this year as a result of a community-wide effort and a state grant. The program focuses on teaching parents how to be teachers in the home, before the child reaches school age. Success By 6 is a United Way of West Georgia initiative and also focuses on getting children ready for school before they enter pre-Kindergarten.
