Man, daughter hurt in wreck

A father and daughter motorcycle ride ended about midnight Wednesday when they crashed into each other while traveling north on New Franklin Road.

State troopers said James Cable and Ida Cable, who live on Hannah Road near the crash site, were thrown onto the highway after her motorcycle ran into the back of his motorcycle.

He was flown to Atlanta Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition this morning. She was flown to Columbus Medical Center and admitted to a regular room, but a condition report was not immediately available.

Autopsy ruling

The death of William Lofley Smith, 51, of Franklin has been ruled an accidental drowning.

Coroner Kathy Buchanan said she received the autopsy results Wednesday afternoon.

Smith apparently fell into New River while fishing Monday night from an abandoned bridge.

Sex abuse charges

LaGrange police arrested a man suspected of suspected of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl Tuesday morning.

Willie Davis, 34, of Troup Street was charged with rape, child molestation and aggravated sexual battery.

Police said Davis knew the girl and allegedly committed the crimes at her residence. The girl’s mother called 911 from West Georgia Medical Center after taking her daughter for treatment and provided a description of Davis’ vehicle, which police stopped on South Greenwood Street.

Theft

A woman in the 110 block of Simmons Street said a man whom she had hired to work on her front porch took a storm door valued at $300.

Arrests

- Reginald Benson, 42, of Hogansville Road was arrested on a burglary warrant Wednesday in the 1100 block of Simmons Street.

- Andre Green, 30, of Dallas Mill Road was charged with burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

- Keith Hargett, 42, of Horseshoe Bend was charged with criminal trespass, two counts of second degree criminal damage to property , DUI and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.

- It is the policy of LaGrange Daily News to print the names of people charged with felonies.
