More than 20 employers will be on hand for a job fair and career expo Thursday at the Callaway Center of West Georgia Technical College, and job seekers can prepare resumes at a workshop planned Tuesday.

Sponsors include the college along with West Georgia/LaGrange Employer Committee, the Georgia Department of Labor and the West Georgia Society for Human Re-source Managers. The event will run from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Callaway Conference Center on the East Campus at 220 Fort Drive in LaGrange.

“Our job fairs and career expos have long proved to be effective tools for matching good employers with qualified job seekers,” said Michael Thurmond, commissioner of the Labor Department. “Al-though Georgia is going through challenging economic times, with rising unemployment and limited job growth, employment opportunities still exist. It may take a little longer for the job seeker to find the right job, but those who persist will succeed.”

The event will feature almost 20 employers that will be hiring to fill current job openings. Other em-ployers will be discussing possible future employment opportunities with job seekers, and other organizations will provide educational and other resources.

Employers include Three Rivers AHEC, Twin Cedars Youth Services Express Employment Pros, Kelly Services, West Georgia Health System, Randolph Medical Center, Aflac, Columbus Police Department, Aerotek, LaGrange Police Department, American Home Shield, the U.S. Army, Resource MFG, Pathways, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Douglas County school system, Princess Parties Spa, West Central Georgia Workforce Development Corp., University of Phoenix, Richmont Graduate University, Columbus State University, Troy University and Vocational Rehabilitation.

Employers still were being added, according to Nancy Norred of West Georgia Tech.

Those planning to attend were encouraged to wear business attire and take along several copies of their resume.

Assistance in preparing resumes will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at West Georgia Tech. Human resources professionals will help individuals create a resume reflecting their skills and career goals. The resume workshop will be in Building D, East Campus of West Georgia Tech.

“I strongly urge job seekers and employers alike to take full advantage of the services and opportunities available at this career expo and job fair, as well as through the Georgia Department of Labor’s LaGrange Career Center,” Thurmond said.
