State troopers found 2,650 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $2.1 million inside a tractor-trailer on Interstate 85 south of LaGrange.

The driver, Rolando Martinez, 48, of Brownsville, Texas, was arrested on trafficking charges.

A trooper said he stopped the truck because of a defective tire as it traveled north about 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Martinez consented to a search of the 53-foot trailer, which was loaded with 16 pallets of jalapeno peppers and mangoes. Hidden in the shipment were 84 bundles of pot wrapped in plastic and silver tape.

The trooper said he wanted to search the cargo area because of “several indicators of criminal activity.”

The truck was seized for possible forfeiture.

Ledet was leaving the store’s parking lot Thursday when a car behind her struck the rear of her vehicle and caused it to spin out of control. The driver’s side of Ledet’s Oldsmobile Cutlass struck the front of a Ford Explorer headed in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Explorer, Kathryn Wagner, 41, of Valley, Ala., was treated at West Georgia Medical Center and released.
