Gennie was born July 12, 1923 in Heard County, GA., daughter of the late David B. and Ollie Mae Bennett Townsend. She was a member of Oakside Baptist Church and was retired from West Point Pepperell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys Fields, Bernice Townsend, and Annie Ruth Townsend; and two brothers, John Henry Townsend and Paul Bennett Townsend.
Survivors include her son, Randy and Geri Brand of LaGrange; a daughter, Jan and Rick Wilson of Pensacola, FL; a grandson, Joe Morgan of Pensacola, FL; a granddaughter, Brittany Brand of Augusta; brothers, Harvey Townsend and D. B. Townsend, both of LaGrange; sisters, Ima Jean Moon and Ida Koone, both of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange Chapel with Dr. Charles Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
