The LaGrange Academy Warriors have been riding a hot streak of late, and they were hoping to continue their solid stretch with wins Thursday and Saturday.

Well, the Warriors have won both games, but not like they’d hoped.

Both opponents forfeited their games against La-Grange Academy because of concerns about a case of the swine flu that has been diagnosed in LaGrange.

A woman visiting La-Grange has been hospitalized since April 27, and on Thursday the swine flu diagnosis was made official.

LaGrange Academy baseball coach Charles Parker said the headmasters from Arlington (Fairburn) and Harvester (Douglasville) called Thursday to give him the news.

The Warriors were supposed to play Arlington Thursday and Harvester on Saturday.

“Our players really wanted to play. They were disappointed,” LaGrange Academy baseball coach Charles Parker said. “But I can understand why (the schools forfeited).”

Parker said Monday’s home game against Griffin Christian is still a go.

With the two forfeit wins, the Warriors have secured one of GISA’s Region 4-AA’s four state-playoff berths.

The Warriors are in fourth place right now, but they could rise to third if Christian Heritage loses another game.

Wherever the Warriors finish up, Parker believes the team is ready for state.

“We’re playing well,” he said.

In other baseball news, the Callaway Cavaliers will host the Jordan Red Jackets at 5:30 p.m. today.

It will be the final home game for the team’s four seniors.
