People like Newt Gingrich, Dick Morris, Carl Rove, and Sean Hannity give the president a failing grade concerning foreign and domestic policies. If you take them seriously, you would think we are headed toward Armageddon. I personally find it ludicrous that such political prognosticators give up on a president after only 100 days in office.
I also feel uncomfortable with those who believe that Obama, in just a few months, is one of our greatest presidents. In such a short period of time, it is impossible to compare Obama with Washington, Lincoln, and Roosevelt. There are those, however, who seriously believe that the president is the messiah we have been waiting for. Unfortunately, they are convinced that he can do no wrong.
The only fair grade to give the president after 100 days in office is a grade of incomplete. It is much too early to say unequivocally what his time in office will turn out to be. The fact is that it is much too early to offer a fair-minded critique. Let’s just wait and see what happens.
As a conservative, I am against all the bailouts we have seen from the administration. Going in debt trillions of dollars is not my cup of tea. I believe that we should live within our means. However, I am willing to wait and see what happens. If the economy turns around, then the president should be appreciated for getting us out of the recession. If the recession continues right up to the next election, then Obama will probably be voted out of office. The American people -not the politicians and media- will have the last say.
So far, I agree with the way the president has managed his foreign policy. We need to use diplomacy as our major means of dealing with other countries. This includes our relationships with Cuba, North Korea, Iran, China, and Russia.
Some people say that we should not talk with our enemies. I strongly disagree. In a world of nuclear weapons, it is absolutely necessary to keep the lines of communication open. I just hope that President Obama will be successful in helping to make our world a safer place.
None of us really knows whether or not President Obama will succeed. It is way too early to make an intelligent judgment. Therefore, we need to be patient.
When a new minister goes to a church, there are those who judge him after only one sermon. If the first sermon displeases them, they are ready for him to go. There are others who are willing to wait and give him a chance. I prefer the latter.
