The Troup Tigers got a sneak peak at a possible second-round opponent Saturday.
If Troup and Spalding County both win their first-round matchups next weekend, they’ll likely play in the second round.
On Saturday, the two teams met at Troup High’s field, and Spalding County came away with an 8-2 victory.
After that game, Spalding County and East Coweta played, so Troup’s coaches got a comprehensive scouting report on a possible playoff opponent.
“We got to see their top-four pitchers, and we got to see how they handle things offensively and defensively, how they react in different situations,” said Troup assistant coach Jamie Schmitt. “We looked at is a chance to learn about them.”
The highlight of the day for Troup was a first-inning home run from Luke Bailey, who deposited a pitch well over the left-field fence.
Bailey, who has been unable to catch because of an arm injury, finished with two hits.
The Tigers added another run in the sixth, with Blake Barber and Bailey each reaching on hits.
Cole Sims, Cody Sheffield and Anthony Robinson each pitched for Troup.
The Tigers, who finished second in Region 2-AAA, will host Perry in a first-round series beginning Friday.
The teams will play a doubleheader Friday, and a third game would be played Saturday if needed.
