LaGrange firefighters had to cut the roof of the Jeep open about 7:45 a.m. The woman, whose name was not available, was taken to West Georgia Medical Center.
She was crossing onto Waverly Way from Broad Street and failed to yield before striking the front end of a white Isuzu Rodeo, LaGrange police investigator Wayne Cato said.
The driver of the other vehicle, also a woman whose name was not available, was treated at West Georgia Medical Center for a head injury.
The Jeep had a Troup County license plate, and the Isuzu had a Muscogee plate.
Jeff Shattuck, a driver stuck in traffic after the accident, yelled to police while driving by.
“That’s my old Jeep that I sold,” Shattuck said while pointing to the Wrangler turned on its side against the intersection sign.
“Well, I’d advise you not to buy it back,” an officer replied.
The intersection, which is across from LaGrange College, is frequently traveled by students going and coming from LaGrange High School, bystander Patsy Darden said.
“When I heard it was a wreck, I just figured at least one of the people involved would be a high school kid,” Darden said. “This is a dangerous intersection, especially for the people crossing to and from Waverly Way. My daughter was involved in an accident here about three months ago.”
