A former teacher at Callaway Middle School has been indicted by a grand jury for alleged sexual relations with a 13-year-old student.

This week’s indictment charges Elizabeth Gaddy with aggravated child molestation, child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

It said Gaddy, who resigned after her arrest in December, performed oral sex on the male student between January and November 2008 on a dirt road near the alleged victim’s residence.

Gaddy has been released from jail on bonds totaling $30,000 and is scheduled for arraignment May 14 in Troup Superior Court.

Ed Smith, superintendent of Troup County schools, had placed Gaddy on administrative leave Nov. 20 after parents of three cheerleaders complained to principal Tom Whatley and the sheriff’s department about Gaddy’s unprofessional conduct.

Sheriff’s investigator Kelli Ellington said the complaints were about “childish stuff” involving text messages and notes in class. But during the conversation, “they told me about rumors of Gaddy having sexual contact with a male student,” Ellington said.

The student told investigators he had sexual relations with the teacher more than five times at locations that included her residence in Hogansville and her car on dirt roads.

Gaddy had been with the school system since 1986.
