A 3-year-old boy was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when his left foot got caught in a lawnmower in Meriwether County, authorities said.

Family members apparently tried to drive the child to West Georgia Medical Center, but stopped at Lafayette Parkway and Eichelberger Drive, and flagged down a state trooper about 6:45 p.m., said LaGrange Fire Department spokesman Chris Taylor.

Taylor said the boy had “severe bleeding.” An ambulance took him to LaGrange Mall where a helicopter transferred him to Egleston children’s hospital in Atlanta.

The child’s name and condition were not immediately available.

Arrests

- Dexter Johnson, 37, of Foch Street was charged with criminal attempt burglary. Police accused Johnson of attempting to break into Center For Creative Growth at 419 Ridley Ave., Thursday night.

- Troup County Sheriff’s deputies charged Sarone Bridges, 33, of Manchester with burglary.

- It is the policy of LaGrange Daily News to print the names of people charged with felonies.
