Two days after his dad was in a wreck while on duty in his Troup County Sheriff’s Department car, Chuck, now 11, his sister Tara Lynn, 6, and his grandmother were in a crash on the way to see him. Chuck Massie got his sister out of the car, flagged down a passerby for help and was able to tell emergency responders and West Georgia Medical Center emergency staff exactly what happened, including military times for the events.
“I thought pretty soon he was going to whip out an insurance card,” said Suzy Noles, 911 supervisor, who came to the emergency room after the crash.
Chuck Massie was honored by Gov. Sonny Perdue last week for being a “911 hero,” an honor well deserved when so many young people make prank calls and even adults call the number for non-emergency information. Tuesday, the Troup County Commission honored the Rosemont Elementary School honor student.
“We’re not the governor, but we’re proud of you too,” said Commission Chairman Ricky Wolfe.
We’re proud of you too, Chuck.
Best of the best
Troup County Schools have recognized the “best of the best” - valedictorians and magna cum laude graduates from the Class of 2009.
The “magna” distinction represents significant achievement. Recipients must have taken the college prep plus curriculum, including a minimum of four advanced placement classes and must have earned at least 22 A’s in academic courses. The valedictorian is the magna graduate with the highest SAT score.
