Mr. Philip S. Gordon, 72, of LaGrange, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Hospice LaGrange.

Mr. Gordon was born January 28, 1937 in New Orleans, LA, son of the late Philip B. Gordon and Azzie Lee Carroll Gordon. He was retired from the United States Navy after over 20 years of service. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked as a pipe fitter and welder for many years. He was a member of Franklin Road Baptist Church. Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jean Kitchens Gordon; a sister, Vivian Gordon; and by a brother, Huey Gordon.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Bishop Gordon of LaGrange; two sons, Patrick B. Gordon of Franklin and Philip S. Gordon, Jr. of Lake Cormorant, MS; two step-children, Barbara Bishop of St. Petersburg, FL and Harold Bishop of Americus; granddaughters, Sharon and Brena Gordon; and two sisters, Silvia Gordon of California, and Bonnie Harris of Florida.

A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Franklin Road Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Buchanan officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the memorial service.

Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to either the American Cancer Society or Hospice LaGrange in memory of Mr. Philip S. Gordon.
