A man and a 1-year-old were briefly trapped in a car which overturned and caught fire in a one-vehicle accident caused by a seizure Wednesday afternoon.

The driver, Carlton Harrison, 26, of New Hutchinson Mill Road, said a seizure caused him to lose control of his vehicle in the 100 block of Spring Street about 12:17 p.m. The vehicle flipped onto its roof on the side of the road with Harrison and his 1-year-old passenger, Cameron Aryan, of Spring Street, temporarily trapped inside. LaGrange firefighters quickly removed them because of the fire and an increasing amount of smoke inside the car, police said.

The two were treated at West Georgia Medical Center and released. Hospital staff verified that Harrison had a seizure and has a history of seizures.

Car rolls over; man ejected

A man was ejected and seriously injured in a rollover car accident about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday on New Hutchinson Mill Road.

The man, who was not immediately identified, was flown by helicopter to Columbus Medical Center with what appeared to be severe head injuries, Troup County fire Capt. Early Harris said.

Another unidentified man in the car was less seriously hurt, Harris said, adding, “He was sitting up and talking.”

Harris said the car left the road in a curve and flipped about three times.

No details were available this morning from the Georgia State Patrol, which investigated the accident.

The woman allegedly pulled out a can of Mace and sprayed it at him. He ran to his car, where a Troup County sheriff’s deputy witnessed the incident.

The woman was charged with battery under the Family Violence Act.

This is in response to Bigdaddyt, first of the car didnt flip it caught fire because his foot was on the gas when he had a seizure.I totally agree with your comment since it was my son,the reason he was driving because he only has seizures every few months if at all.The doctor has told him that he can drive because normally he has symptoms that inform him that he is about to have one like jerking. The reason he was driving that day was because i was in the hospital having surgery.I appreciate your concern.

If Mr. Harrison has a history of siezures why does he still have a drivers license? In the past I have known of people who have siezures to have thier license taken away because they were a danger to themselves and others. I,m not trying to be mean to Mr. Harrison or others with his condition but I don't want my loved ones injured or killed by someone who has a seizure while driving!
