Mr. Heard was born in Fredonia, Alabama on July 18, 1922. He confessed Christ at an early age and united with the Friendship Baptist Church in Gabbettville. He was United States Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a mason for many years and retired from Uniroyal in 1988.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Ida M. Heard; four sons, John Willie Heard Jr., LaGrange; Rodney J. Heard, Decatur; Randy L. Heard of California; Wade K. Pitts, Hogansville; daughter, Evelyn C. Evans of Douglasville; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Fannie Heard Stinson.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home. Rev. Timothy Maddox will officiate. Burial will be in the Southview Cemetery with military honors.
The family will be at their home at 617 West Main Street in Hogansville.
