Two men punched a 16-year-old and stole his wallet in the parking lot of Chevron at 315 New Franklin Road on Thursday night, police said.
As the victim pulled his vehicle into the parking lot and got out about 9:20 p.m., the two men approached him. One punched him in the nose while the other grabbed his wallet from his pants. The men took cash from the wallet and threw it on the ground before fleeing. Police have no suspects.
Woman hurt in car-truck wreck
A woman was seriously injured about 6:30 this morning in an accident involving her car and a tractor-trailer on Interstate 85 south of LaGrange.
The unidentified woman was taken by ambulance to Columbus Medical Center because it would have taken about an hour for a helicopter to arrive at the scene. One of the northbound lanes was closed because of the accident at the Troup-Harris county line.
The woman suffered a head injury, but other details were not immediately available.
Burglaries, thefts
— A resident of the 100 block of Turner Street said a thief stole a 42-inch flat screen TV valued at $2,500, jewelry valued at $3,600, video games valued at $600, and foreign currency valued at $2,000 from a dresser drawer of the bedroom. Police found two fingerprints on one of the glass doors of the residence.
— An employee of Radio Shack at LaGrange Mall said a woman stole a digital video recorder valued at $249 and a digital camera valued at $149. The woman went to check out and ran toward J.C. Penney when the employee turned his back to serve another customer, he said.
— An ATV valued at $500 was stolen from a residence in the 800 block of Pyne Road.
Battery
A resident of the 5800 block of Whitesville Street said her boyfriend began talking to himself while visiting her Thursday morning and said there were other people in the room who she couldn’t see. When she tried to regain his focus, he punched her in the head and shoulders. The man ran outside and said people were trying to kill him.
Troup County sheriff’s deputies found the man near the residence and asked about the incident. He said his girlfriend was planning to hang him and he believed that he was about to have a seizure because of his medical history.
Deputies took him to West Georgia Medical Center, where he was treated and released. No arrest was made.
Arrests
— West Point police charged Barry Petty, 29, of Carrollton with burglary of a residence and motor vehicle theft.
— Sheriff’s deputies charged Rocky Ellis, 50, of Roosterville with forced-entry burglary of a residence.
— Quentin Crawford, 19, of Borton Street was charged with possession of a controlled substance near a housing project and violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act with cocaine.
Guilty pleas
— Enrique Alaniz, 31, of Tulare, Calif., and his brother, Daniel Alaniz, 27, of Los Angeles, were sentenced Thursday in Troup Superior Court after they pleaded guilty to trafficking in marijuana.
Enrique Alaniz was sentenced to two year in prison and four years’ probation, and Daniel Alaniz received one year in prison and four years’ probation. They were ordered to pay fines of $3,500 each.
State troopers found 1,260 pounds of pot in their vehicle after a traffic stop Dec. 20 on Interstate 85.
— In another guilty plea, Darren Patrick Thornton, 30, of LaGrange was sentenced to five years in prison for selling cocaine.
