The 29-year-old man said they left the motel about 5 a.m. Friday in an extended cab pickup that she was driving. When they stopped for a red light at Morgan and Greenville streets, a man who had been hiding in the rear cab area grabbed him and tried to hold him in place.
The man escaped from the vehicle, falling on the way out and scraping his right elbow and knee. He ran to the nearby police department, but officers were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description.
Theft
Gusto Brands at 707 Douglas St. reported the theft of a money bag containing $4,390.
Guilty pleas
Melvin Render, 44, of LaGrange, who was convicted of child molestation in 2001, was sentenced to four years in prison and six years’ probation Friday in Troup Superior Court after he pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender.
Render didn’t let authorities know he had changed addresses before the move took place.
In another case, Timmie Torreal Huguley, 41, of Lanett, Ala., was sentenced to five years in prison for possession of cocaine and driving without a license.
