The bikers and the bands will gather on Lafayette Square on Saturday.

Two events have combined for a day of family events and fundraising for families, as well.

Bikers on Main will host its second event on Lafayette Square with a 125-mile Poker Run, with vendors, door prizes, T-shirts and a live auction, as well as free children’s ID kits, inflatables and games for children. The proceeds from the event will benefit Harmony House, a local domestic violence shelter.

“This is an opportunity to bring bikers together for a good charity event,” said Derrick Lewis, one of the organizers of the event. “We want to do something for the community as a family event. They’ll be lots to do for the whole family and the Poker Run will cover some beautiful territory.” Last year the event raised money for the family of Corey Spates, a soldier killed in Iraq.

“This isn’t just a day for bikers,” Lewis said. “This is for the whole family, whether or not you participate in the ride.”

Bikers will register for the poker run between 8 and 10 a.m. in the theater parking lot. All other events will begin at 10 a.m. on Lafayette Square.

At the same time, the “Battle of the Bands” will be set up on a stage in the Carmike Theater parking lot.

The event will have seven acts playing throughout the day. Five local bands will play, including 349, Bone Yard, Exitian, Aces and Eights, and Hired Guns.

Also performing is the Atlanta band Holdcell and the Huntsville, Ala., band Faith Rising.

“Holdcell is an up-and-coming band that plays an eclectic mix of music,” Wooten said.

Rained out in March, the event begins at 10 a.m. with music starting at 11 a.m. The city portable stage will be set up for the bands. There also will be food available, “Battle of the Bands” T-shirts for sale and ongoing raffles for a variety of prizes, including an electric guitar and a computer system.
