The man was outside at another residence nearby when the men approached him and demanded money before repeatedly punching him. The victim refused medical treatment.
Police have no leads or suspects.
Shooting probed
Troup County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting incident involving a man taken to a hospital in Columbus. Johnny Brown, 39, of Bartley Road said he returned home about 11:40 p.m. Friday and was shot in the leg by someone in hiding as he stepped out of his car. He was taken to Columbus Regional Medical Center and later released. Deputies have no suspects and said Brown never saw the shooter. An investigation determined Brown was shot by a handgun.
Man found
lying in street
LaGrange police and emergency personnel responded to a report of a man lying in the road at the intersection of Hamilton Road, and Morgan and Whitesville streets at 8:45 p.m. Monday. A 911 operator reported that the man was hit by a car based on information an anonymous caller provided, police said. Police later determined that was false. The man, whose name was unavailable from police, was taken to West Georgia Medical Center.
Burglaries, thefts
— A thief stole a laptop computer valued at $1,000 from a residence in the first block of Barnard Avenue.
— A resident of the 200 block of New Airport Road reported his 1993 Ford Ranger pickup truck as stolen.
— A resident of the 600 block of Oak Grove road said a man and woman used her personal information to access her bank account and steal $800 in April and May.
— A thief stole a pistol from a truck in the 1700 block of Cameron Mill Road.
Fire
A fire reported at 4:58 p.m. Monday destroyed the home of Airlene Gilbert at 296 Salem Farm Road.
Flames were shooting from the roof when firefighters arrived. The fire gutted a bedroom area and there was smoke and water damage throughout the house.
The cause of the fire had not been determined.
