For Jamius Gunsby and Joe Mansour, this summer is all about road tripping around the southeast.
The LaGrange High quarterback and kicker are well-known on the recruiting trail for countless college football coaches, and the pair of upcoming senior standouts have been touring several schools with the company of Joe’s father, Nasor.
Gunsby and Mansour attended a camp in Athens Wednesday, and recently returned from LSU and Florida.
Alabama and Kentucky will get a glimpse of the duo next week, with Auburn and Florida State to follow in July.
It’s a chance for them not only to tour the schools’ elite facilities, but to also strut their stuff for some of the nation’s best teams.
“They’ve heard about us,” Mansour said. “We just wanted to see what these schools are like.”
Gunsby, who has scholarship offers from Florida and Troy, said the recruiting camps allow him to show off his abilities and improve in preparation for his final season with the Grangers.
“I feel like I’ve improved,” Gunsby said. “My feet have gotten quicker and I’ve improved on reading the defense.”
Gunsby said all of the evaluating coaches have told him he’s got a “big arm,” and he thinks he’s performed well with what they’ve asked him to do.
Midway through the summer tour, Florida sticks out for Gunsby.
“I like the facilities and coaches,” Gunsby said. “I like how they greet you.”
Mansour, who said he has no favorites yet, was also able to make an impression on Florida—including Gators’ head coach Urban Meyer.
While Mansour didn’t participate in drills during the camp in Gainesville, he had a one-on-one session with Meyer, also the Gators’ special teams coach.
The two had The Swamp to themselves, and Mansour showed the two-time national title-winner what he could do.
“It was just me and (Meyer),” Mansour said. “He was pretty happy with what I was doing.”
While Mansour hasn’t received an offer from the Gators, he thinks one could be coming soon.
“They have to evaluate another guy before they offer me,” Mansour said..
In Baton Rouge, Mansour was one of six kickers selected out of 50 in attendance to show the coaches his abilities in a private session in the Tigers’ indoor facility.
“I did a few field goals and kickoffs for them,” Mansour said. “I think I did well.”
Mansour was one of two kickers attending Wednesday’s camp at Georgia, and both were able to kick in front of Bulldogs’ head coach Mark Richt.
With Kentucky up next for the pair, Mansour is excited to check out what several former Grangers have called home.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Mansour said. “It seems like everybody from LaGrange goes up there. I want to see what everyone’s talking about.”

Sounds like some Tigers are over on Hamilton Rd drinking some HATER-ADE!!! Get out of the first round of the state playoffs first, then try and drum up dirt. His "problems" are well documented and I'm sure Coach Pardue will straighten him out, just like he did last year.
