Our present corrupt health care system is run by insurance companies which charge outrageous premiums and skimp on benefits. It is an unfair and unhealthy culture of fraud and abuse. In today’s health care system, the only certainties for most of us are illness, poverty, and death. Each of us is a single illness away from bankruptcy.
The right wing warns that health care reform will lead to socialized medicine, with the government being the single payer for benefits. For once, I hope that the conservatives are right!
Among the many lingering unreasonable fears from the 1950s is the conservative fear of socialism. For the next few months, that fear will be directed toward stopping health care reform. In 15 years, Medicare/Medicaid in the US will be 8 TIMES larger than social security! The greed and expense of the insurance and pharma industry (my industry) is disgusting and literally killing our population.
Sure, we may have the best specialists and expertise in the world, but we have issues that are meaningful. We need an overhaul.
