Mr. Washington was born March 15, 1927 in Randolph County, AL, son of the late Arthur D. Washington and Eunice Shaw Washington. He had lived in LaGrange most of his life and was a member of East Vernon Baptist Church. Mr. Washington was employed with Independent Life Insurance Company as an insurance agent before retiring. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in World War II and loved the outdoors and wood working. In addition to his parents, Mr. Washington was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Jim Bailey Washington, and a son, Glenn Washington.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Cathy Washington of LaGrange; daughter-in-law, Nancy Washington of LaGrange; grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica and Brad Folds, Josh Washington, Katie and Brent Nations, and Emily Washington; great-grandchildren, Makayla Folds, Morgan Wyatt Folds, Joseph Washington, and Tyson Nations; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Erbis and Charles Tenant of Dublin, GA and Ilene Culpepper of Marianna, FL; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Glynis and Raymond Perdue of LaGrange and Maxine Breed of Roanoke, AL; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Jerome Bailey of Decatur, IL and Wayne and Sybil Bailey of Columbus; and several nieces and nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 26, 2009 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Dwayne Perdue officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will be at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Cathy Washington, and will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
