Game day has finally arrived.

The Troup County Parks and Recreation Commission season ended early in June, and the Hogansville 9-10-year-old all-stars began practicing soon after.

Today, the 12 players on the Hogansville team will put what they’ve worked on in practice to the test when play begins in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 1 tournament at the Harris Baseball Complex.

Hogansville and Troup American will play at 10 a.m, while Troup National will face Pike County National at 11:30 a.m.

In the other 9-10 game, Pike American and Thomaston will meet at 1 p.m.

Manchester has a bye and won’t play until Sunday.

“They’re ready to. We can’t wait for (today),” said Keith Jackson, head coach of the Hogansville team.

The 11-12 district tournament also begins today at the Harris Complex.

Troup National will play Pike County at 10 a.m., and Troup American faces Manchester at 11:30 a.m.

Both tournaments feature a double-elimination format, and the top-two finishers in each age group advance to the state tournament.

Hogansville is made up of players from three teams, including six from the championship team coached by Jackson.

Two of the players, Caleb Upshaw and Josh Hanson, were on last year’s Hogansville 9-10 all-star team.

In a game this season against the National division champion, Upshaw had 12 strikeouts.

“We have some kids that know how to play,” Jackson said. “We’re ready to get started.”

The tournament continues Sunday, with the Hogansville-Troup American winner playing either Pike County or Troup National in a winner’s bracket game at 2:30 p.m.

The losers of those two games meet at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The tournament continues at least through Wednesday, and possibly Thursday.

In the 11-12 tournament, the Troup American-Manchester winner won’t have to play again until Monday at 7:30 p.m., while the loser will play Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the loser’s bracket.

The Pike County-Troup National winner will face Thomaston at 2 p.m. on Sunday, while the loser plays in the 3:30 p.m. game on Sunday.
