Won’t forget where I came from

It has been my honor and pleasure to represent the citizens of the 129th District, consisting of Harris, Muscogee and Troup Counties for the past 17 years. I have enjoyed working with individuals across all levels of government and business in fulfilling the needs of our communities.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you all - for your confidence and support, for first electing me to office in 1992, and for allowing me to continue to serve you for the past eight terms. These last 17 years have been an incredible journey for me personally and for our district.

During my tenure in the Georgia House of Representatives, I have learned that this was never a lone or solo journey, but rather a collaboration and a team effort. Without every person along the way who offered advice, encouragement, ideas and expertise, we would not have realized our gains and accomplishments.

I want to bring this spirit of collaboration and team building to the next chapter of my professional life. Having served as Chairman of the House Transportation Committee, I know all too well the issues confronting not just the Transportation Department, but all transportation interests in Georgia. We need a seamless, interconnected transportation system made up of multiple modes that will serve urban commuters, as well as rural communities. Each and every Georgian deserves a safe, dependable, well-managed transportation system that helps improve their quality of life, as well as provides economic opportunities. They deserve a system that offers enhanced connectivity and less congestion - to help attract commercial, industrial and retail business to cities and towns from Toccoa to Thomasville and Pine Mountain to Pooler.

As Commissioner of the Georgia DOT, I believe I can help make a difference. There are great challenges facing the Department. I see these challenges as opportunities to take a good transportation system to the next level, and make it the best it can be.

While I strive to look more at where I am going than where I have been, rest assured I will never forget where I came from. I thank you for your trust and continued support.
