The storm, which lasted from about 8:30 to 9:40 p.m. Sunday, left about 1,500 LaGrange customers without power and 2,000 Diverse Power customers from West Point to Greenville in the dark.
Power was reported restored this morning.
“At our peak, we had about 1,500 customers without power,” said Patrick Bowie, LaGrange utilities director. Customers were restored within four hours of the storm.
Emergency 911 dispatchers said lightning set fire to a storage building at 661 Teaver Road, causing an undetermined amount of damage.
A tree was reported down at La-Grange College, but school officials said there only were power outages at the college and no damage.
Hogansville and West Point reported no major incidents.
An inch of rain fell in downtown LaGrange.
The storm was part of a series which struck the state, with northwest and southwest Georgia being the hardest-hit.
Today’s forecast for LaGrange calls for a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon with a high in the lower 80s and west winds 10 to 15 mph.
