Willie “Bubba” Gates, 24, of Revis Street, Anthony Hodnett, 27, of Belk Street and Napoleon Truitt, 19, of Revis Steet were charged with willful murder with a gun.
Each suspect played a key role in the fatal shooting of Raymond Parker, 24, of Daniel Street, police said.
“It appeared to be a planned shooting after the suspects engaged in a physical altercation with Parker and some others sometime Tuesday night in the 300 block of Dix Street,” Sgt. Mark Cavender said. “Based on interviews and our investigation so far, there was an ongoing feud between the suspects and Parker.”
Police broke up the altercation Tuesday night as a large group of people watched.
After the disturbance, the suspects went to Gates’ residence one block away and returned 15 to 40 minutes later with a firearm, shooting Parker once in the head, Cavender said. Gates was the suspected trigger man and the first suspect listed by police. Officers found Parker about 10:15 p.m. lying in front of a residence at 310 Dix St.
Parker had been shot toward the back right of the head and was pronounced dead at 11:06 p.m. at West Georgia Medical Center. His body was taken to the GBI crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.
“Based on interviews, there was a clear plan to retrieve the gun and shoot and kill Parker after the altercation,” Cavender said.
In addition to murder, Gates also was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Numerous people witnessed the shooting, police said. The suspects were seen fleeing in a black Chevrolet Camaro in the 400 block of Revis Street after the shooting.
Police first issued a warrant for Gates before witness accounts later led them to Hodnett and Truitt.
“We located Hodnett at Gates’ mother’s residence on Revis Street Wednesday morning,” Cavender said. “Truitt was found at his father’s residence around 1:30 p.m. on Addie Street. We got Gates later that afternoon around 4:20 near Handley and Dunson streets. We had been patrolling the area after receiving a tip about his whereabouts and found him hiding in some bushes.”
Police were still trying to verify the kin d fo weapong used in the shooting and declined to say whetherit had been found.
