Mrs. Jessie D. Heard of 6 Duffey Drive passed away at Emory University Hospital.

Mrs. Heard, a native of Troup County, was born July 23, 1947 and was the daughter of the late Jessie Harris and Iris L. Harris. She was a 1965 graduate of East Depot High School and received the Bachelors degree from Fort Valley State College.She received the Master’s degree from West Georgia College. She was a special education teacher in the Troup County School system and retired after 31 years.

Mrs. Heard was a charter member and President of the Fort Valley State University Alumni Association of West Georgia/Troup County.She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and a board member of the Walter Scott Scholarship Foundation. She dedicated her life to tutoring, mentoring, and cooking.She was a blessed financial advisor to many who attended Fort Valley State University and other colleges and universities. Jessie was a loving and devoted member of Sardis Baptist Church where she served throughout the church in various capacities.

Survivors include her sons, Sanford E. Heard Jr. (Ronni), LaGrange and Jonathan Heard, Atlanta; daughter, Melanie L. Heard, LaGrange; husband, Sanford E. Heard Sr., LaGrange; foster children, Russell Wiliams, Christopher Williams and Quentin Williams; sisters, Freddie Magby, Irene (Arthur) Hubbard, Jean Harrison, Gail McCord, Lanie Manning, all of LaGrange; brothers, Alton Harris, James Harris and Norman Harris, all of LaGrange; granddaughters, Ava, Iris, Addison, and Keiyunna Maddox (honorary); many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special friends, Doris Davenport, LaGrange; and extended family, the Paramore family of Cairo, GA (Grace, Mary, Regina and others).

The celebration of life service will be Sunday at 2:30 PM at the New Community Church on South Davis Road. Rev. Walter Dowell will officiate. Burial will be in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of her son, Sanford Heard Jr. at 369 East Mount Zion Church Road.

Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
