The Troup all-stars are one victory away from a state championship.
Competing in the 11-12-year-old Georgia Recreation and Parks Association state tournament, Troup County will face Bartow County at 10 a.m. today in the title round.
Since Troup hasn’t lost a game in the double-elimination tournament, Bartow County would have to win two games today to capture the title.
On Friday, Troup County beat Hogansville 9-0 to advance to the championship game.
Hogansville then fell to Bartow County 1-0 in an elimination game.
Also today, the Troup County 9-10 all-stars will play for a state championship at 11 a.m. against either Cherokee County or Rome.
Troup beat Rome 9-3 on Friday to advance to today’s title game.
Troup hasn’t lost, so it would have to fall twice today to not win the title.
In the 11-12 tournament, Lauren Robinson and Abby Waldroup teamed up for a no-hitter against Hogansville.
In two games, Troup has only give up one infield hit.
“I knew our hitting was going to be great, but our pitching has been unbelievable,” Troup coach Randy Waldroup said.
As for today, Waldroup said, “We feel like we’re in pretty good shape. We’ll see what happens.”
In the 13-14 state tournament, the Troup all-stars will play for a state championship as well.
Troup handled Augusta 5-2 on Friday to earn its title shot.
The opponent will be the winner of today’s game between Augusta and Spalding County.
Krissy Allen was the winning pitcher, and infielders Jessica Gilbert and Chelsea Bozeman helped turn some key double plays.
“We had some great plays in the field,” Troup coach Johnny Green said.
