Troup County is making this look really easy.
The Troup 13-year-old all-stars have played twice in the Junior Dixie Boys Baseball state tournament, and they’ve won their games by a combined score of 22-3.
Troup, which hammered Newton County 11-2 on Sunday, is off today and will play for the state championship on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Covington.
Newton County and Brookwood play at 6 p.m. today, with the winner advancing to face Troup.
“The way they’re playing right now, I’d put them up against anybody,” Troup coach Andy Buchanan said. “The team is playing outstanding. We’re looking forward to Tuesday.”
Caleb Buchanan started and pitched five innings on Sunday, and Dustin Vaught threw the final two innings.
At the plate, 11 players had at least one hit, including Buchanan, who led the way with four hits.
Buchanan had two doubles and scored three runs.
Matt Morton added three hits, and he drove in five runs.
Jaylen Colton contributed a pair of hits, and he scored four runs.
Twin brothers Dustin and Clayton Vaught each had hits, as did Chas Pardue, Dre Leonard, Drew Elliston, Hayden Olive, Carson Aldridge and Josh Fogle.
J.P. Patterson had a sacrifice fly.
“It really was a well-rounded effort,” Buchanan said.
