The “TEA party” movement is coming to LaGrange.

A local group calling itself the LaGrange TEA Party Patriots has planned a “TEA Party” (Taxed Enough Already) from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Labor Day on Lafayette Square.

More than 100 people turned out last week for an informational meeting to assess interest in pursuing a local TEA party, said Hilda Railey, spokeswoman for a core committee organizing the event.

“We wanted to determine how much interest there was, and were surprised and pleased by the turnout,” Railey said.

A similar meeting in Columbus pulled in fewer than 100 people from a much larger population base, she said.

Similar protests attracting thousands of total participants occurred in cities and towns across the nation on April 15, the income tax deadline day, and again on July 4.

The local core committee includes Donna Wright, Edward Rodgers, Gloria Livingston, Pat Hester, Bob McCrary, Mark Jones, Ellen Gilmore and Railey.

“The committee has worked really hard on this over the last several weeks,” Railey said. “We have two or three speakers committed and are working on other things, including a few vendors.”

A permit has been obtained for use of the square.

The group’s mission statement says “The LaGrange TEA Party Patriots is a group of individuals united by our shared core values: fiscal responsibility, limited government and free markets.

“We recognize the strength of grassroots organizing powered by activism and civic responsibility. Our mission is to organize like-minded individuals, educate and inform others based on our core values, to secure public policy consistent with those values and to positively affect the outcome of elections. … We believe in limited government, lower taxes, individual freedom, support of the Constitution and educating others.”

Before last week’s gathering at Hoofers, the group used word of mouth, e-mails and voice mail to communicate its plans.

“We decided that we needed to see what kind of enthusiasm we could generate. We wanted to know that people would support us and would help us. We found out there are a lot of people like us who wanted to do a TEA party but didn’t know where to start,” Railey said.

— Committees are forming to complete planning for the event. Anyone interested in joining a committee may call Wright at (706) 837-9951, Hester at (706) 884-2184, Railey at (706) 884-5837 or other members of the core group.

@USA,

As bad as you want to make this a racial thing, it's not.

You're the only one here discussing anything to do with color. Not to mention bringing up the KKK...

Anytime anyone has anything to say about what our President is doing it's because we're the KKK.

Now first, get over the fact that no one here cares you're obviously of color. And, secondly... stop disrupting on-topic discussion with your off-the-wall racial remarks.

Now as for everyone else... see you at the square!

Suppose that you are on a ship and it begins to sink. There are not enough lifeboats to save everyone. Lets say that the paricular lifeboat you are in is filled to capacity. And lets say that there is another person in the water calling for help and is about to drown. You know that if you go back for them the lifeboat will sink and everyone will die because the lifeboat was not designed to rescue everyone. Saving everyone is what socialized medicine would attempt to do, but you can't do that without eventally destroying everyone.

So much hate in this world,My son could have but didn't go to the welfare for peachcare or anything else, Could have but didn't sign up for disabilty,He said it was a sign of giving up, He wants to work ( bad ) He always have worked from age 14 up until this came about, And as of threating please, I love you as a human and wouldn't do harm to anyone! the WORDS I said are bible everyone has to meet there maker. whom is the Lord Christ and what we do or say in this world will let the lord know where we go! Sir I nor my son are looking for nothing!NO helping hands or anything my son just wants to live!!

And I too have worked and my husband 28 yrs for same plant which close down 4 mts ago and there went his Ins so dont say suck it up, We have and my son again Sir just want to live, The Lord says in the last day they will be running to and from and many shall call and I will say for I never knew you, So the work starts now! Love people and know just cause people tell of there stories of there life and hard ships and sickness dont mean their looking for things, maybe GOD sent me to this page for prayers and maybe you God tested to see if you were gonna pass his test of compassion for a human being and instead he got bitterness,

But I forgive you and I will pray for you as I pray for myself and the whole world.

And remember you are my brother/sister in Christ and I love you and the LaGrange area

And my son is only 24 and if you are older than that I'm sure you have more cost in medical bills than him him, But in the last 4 yrs til to this date he has a total of about 140 thousand and thats enough! At 24 and everytime he go to west georgia or Atlanta its gonna keep going up,

BUT AS I said he wants to live, not anything else for free, only another day 4 his child

And Im so sorry that you feel like that

Your comment on a KKK rally is just your pure ignorance trying to throw something out to make yourself feel like a victim or something.

Here's the thing I can about 99% guarentee you that your son has NOT had the medical bills I have had in my life time. All I can say is suck it up and deal with it. My parents worked several jobs at a time to pay my medical bills growing up and as I continue to pay even today.

Quit looking for everyone else to hand everything to you and your son for free. I really dont feel sorry for you or your son, it sucks for yall but thats life. I just wish I could work and make money to get ahead in life instead of having to support half the country's kids who are on Medicare, Peachcare. I say let everyone deal with their own problems.

And you can quit with the part saying "one day I'll meet my maker..." like your threatening me somehow.

My last point is no one should get anything for free whether its healthcare, food, housing, or anything.

USA, I feel absolutely horrible about your situation with your son and sympathize with your problem. In extreme cases like this, we absolutely need to find ways to help your son with medical coverage.

Most conservatives believe in alternate solutions like health savings accounts where people can deal directly with doctors and eliminate the insurance middle men driving up costs. Then very low cost catastrophic insurance which ONLY covers extreme cases like your son could bridge the gap once costs become very high.

Our fear as citizens with the direction of the country and health care is that our country will soon be completely bankrupt, and then no one will be able to afford a simple checkup.

Also, you will find in socialized medicine countries like the UK and Canada, that a case like yours would receive much worse care with long waiting lists IF they approve your treatment. That's why Canadians with cancer often travel across the border to the US to find coverage.

As to your KKK comment, I think this is misguided. There are numerous African American conservatives that are some of the people I respect the most in the world. For example, JC Watts, Thomas Sowell, Condoleeza Rice, Walter E. Williams, Clarence Thomas, Lynn Swann, Alan Keyes, etc, etc. Let's please keep the discussion to the issues.

For those of you who want limited government, lower taxes, fiscal responsibility, and free markets, visit our website at www.lagrangepatriots.org.

So I ask you again sir who's paying for that he goes to the hosiptal at lease 2 time a month,

You comment about thats my son fault he has no Ins, But why you didn't comment on is this a kkk rally?

One day will have to meet your maker and I pray that he give you a chance unlike you wish for my son,

Keep praying that God too will change your heart toward men. God so loved the world that he gave his only begotton son. FOR US, all of us

For usa, thats what he gets for not having insurance.

The Tea party is coming to Lagrange because people like myself are tired of being taxed everytime we turn around. This is show how disgrunteled we are with outrageous taxes on the federal, state, and ocal levels. We are tired of supporting those that wont do for themselves.

This sounds like a kkk rally,

We dont want nor do we need a TEA PARTY here,

Here in Lagrange we are trying to pull together.

what the people here and all over the USA need is Help with health care, like my son who found out last year that he may have cancer, but has no Ins, there for he can't get the help that he needs to even find out if he has it or not. And yes he's been every where trying to find help, No money no erays no doctors, SO I guess he just got to sit back and wait, and yes he's been to the hosiptal many times with his lungs but no help, what can He do is the tea party coming for that?
