Good opening weekend for Troup County all-star teams in state tourneys.

The all-star baseball teams of Troup County had a solid weekend in the opening rounds of state tournaments being played around the state.
The 9-10 National and American squads, playing in Lilburn, went a combined 3-1 on Saturday and Sunday, with more games to be played this week.
Troup National defeated North Gwinnett National 11-1 Saturday in four innings.
Dylan Johnson was that game’s hero, as he pitched a one-hitter and notched 11 strikeouts while also hitting a home run.
Jay Anderson’s team also defeated Norcross American 17-0 Sunday, which also lasted just four innings.
Jake Farrar led the team on the mound in Game 2, and he didn’t allow a hit while also smacking a home run.
Troup National, one of just four unbeaten teams left in the tournament, faces Lee County today at 8 p.m.
Troup American defeated Wrens 15-3 in four innings on Saturday, but dropped its second game Sunday to Lee County 18-5.
Every player had a hit in the win against Wrens for a total of 12 singles.
Troup American also won a skill competition Friday before the tournament started.
Perry Prather’s team finished first in the base-running competition.
Troup American faces Norcross today at 6 p.m.
The 11-12 Troup National, who is playing in Covington, is also 2-0 with two games under its belt.
The National defeated Buford 20-0 in four innings on Saturday, and defeated Albany American – the defending state champions – 7-4 on Sunday.
In the game against Buford, Cody Mimbs had a three-run homer, with Jonathan Foster and Jeremy Harper each notching two-run homers.
In the game against Albany, Logan Moody pitched around seven Troup errors and allowed three hits with 10 strikeouts.
Lee County comes calling today, and that game will be played at 8 p.m.
Also in a state tournament is the West Point 15-16 senior league all-stars, who are playing a state tournament at Oconee High School in Athens.
West Point defeated Smyrna 16-2 Saturday and Western 8-3 on Sunday.
