Mr. Peter Alden Lavoie, age 62 of Franklin, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, July 21, 2009.

Funeral services for Mr. Lavoie will be conducted Saturday, July 25, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. from the Franklin United Methodist Church with the Reverends Brett Mathews, Neil Awbrey and Royesse Stowe officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin City Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the funeral home this evening from 6-8.

Mr. Lavoie was born in Milford, Maine, the son of the late Vinal Lavoie and Mavis Nevels Lavoie. He was a dental technician, and had owned his own business, Precision Ceramics. He served his country honorably in the United States Army with tours of duty in both the Vietnam War and Germany. For his gallantry he was awarded the NDSM, VSM w1 ss & BS, VCM w/60 Dev, VN Tech Svc Mdl, ARCOM w1st OLC, GCMDL (1ST thru 3rd Awd), 3 o/s Bars, VCG w/Palm. His most recent service to his country has been given in his constant concern and work on behalf of fellow veterans in Heard County. He, along with fellow veteran, Donald Holms have worked tirelessly to gain both medical and financial support for these gallant men. Their efforts have been invaluable to the many that they have served.

The evidence of his love and devotion have also been felt at the Franklin United Methodist Church where he worked on many projects. He especially enjoyed being a part of the United Methodist Men, which he worked to get started. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. ‘Mr. Pete’ will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Lavoie of Franklin; two daughters, Kim Lavoie Hineley (Steve) of Newnan, and Laura Lavoie Dowinig of Saratoga, N.Y.; one son, Danny Lavoie of Franklin; two granddaughters, Sarah Geraldine and Josephine Claire Hineley of Newnan; two sisters, Belva Nason of Milton, MN., and Janice Nakel of Portland, MN.; one brother, Wayne Lavoie of Bangor, MN.; and a host of adoring friends.
