Mr. Tucker, a native of Harris County was the son of the late Johnnie Tucker, Sr. and Mary Barton Tucker. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board. Mr. Tucker retired from Callaway Gardens after 25 years of service in the Horticulture Department. He was well known for gardening, raising animals and being there to give a helping hand to anyone in need.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Mrs. Mary Earl Whatley Tucker of Pine Mountain; four sisters, Mary Bell Roman (Frank), Shirley Ann Barton Eva Taylor and Evelyn Barton all of Flint, Mich.; two brothers, Herman Stinson (Ordean) of Mableton, and L.S. Barton of Flint, Mich.; two children, Curtis Whatley (Vickie) of Pleasant Gardens, N.C. and Rita Whatley Maddox (Rev. James) of Pine Mountain; four grandchildren and several other relatives.
Funeral services for Johnnie Tucker, Jr. will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethany Baptist Church in Pine Mountain. Rev. W.J. Clark will officiate with burial at the Church Cemetery.
