Troup County added to its championship tally on Saturday, with the 9-10 National and 11-12 National all-star teams each walking away with state titles in Dixie Youth Baseball.

Those two teams joined the 13-year-old and 13-14-year-old teams that had already won state titles.

All four teams will participate in the Dixie World Series.

According to Kerry Whaley, director of youth baseball for the Troup County Parks and Recreation Commission, this is the first time one county has had four teams make it to the Dixie World Series.

“We are just so proud of all of them,” Whaley said.

Also on Saturday, the Georgia Dollz, a team composed of players from Troup County and Newnan, won the championship in the American Softball Association Girls 12-and-under “B” Fastpitch Southern National Championship at Shuford Fields.

The Dollz won it in unconventional fashion when the team they were facing in the finals, the Challengers (Ala.), were discovered using an ineligible player.

The Challengers had to forfeit the game, giving the Dollz the title.

In Dixie Baseball, Troup’s 9-10 team beat Lee County American 8-2 to claim the title in Gwinnett County. Jake Farrar was Saturday’s hero, pitching all six innings and knocking in four RBIs at the plate.

Farrar hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and smacked another two-run homer later in the fifth.

Luke Elder also hit a solo home run in the third.

Anderson said his team was able to win the tournament by being solid in every phase of the game.

“We had a solid team because we’re well-rounded,” Anderson said. “I knew we had a good chance to win the whole thing because we have good pitching, defense and hitting, and we’ve also got good team speed.”

In the 11-12 tournament, Troup overwhelmed 12-2 in Newton County.

Jeremy Harper started and pitched three innings, and Logan Hood finished things off in the the fourth inning of a game shortened because of the mercy rule.

Perry Keith and Logan Moody each hit home runs, and Keith and Jonathan Foster had three hits apiece.

The 9-10 year old team is very well coached. My son played for the American team, and we went up against them in the District Tournament and played them about as tough as anyone has at least in the first game. The second game was not close. But anyway, I like this team because defense and fundamentals are important to them. They don't do a lot of talking about bats, and how much bats cost. They just beat your brains in with good fundamentals. My hat is off to them, and I would like to congratulate a true unsung hero on this team ...Willis Kemp. Doesn't get much pub, but what a great little second baseman. Way to go Willis!!

The 9-10 year old team is to be commended. I am a parent for a kid on the other team....the Americans, and Jay and his staff had a great team. It seems like everybody gets hung up on what kind of bat to use, how much the bat costs, how many homeruns you can hit, blah blah blah, but defensive fundamentals, i.e. not kicking the ball around all over the place, making good throws to me is just as important, if not more important than some fancy bat. So, I tip my hat to this team, because they preached fundamentals, they talked fundamentals and they walk fundamentals. It'll be real interesting to see how far this team can go. One kid that is a true unsung hero on this squad from my viewpoint is Willis Kemp. Great defender, and he gets very little pub. Way to go Willis!!!You are my man!!
