Look for more wet weather as thunderstorms move into West Georgia.
Rain fell in LaGrange on Tuesday evening and more arrived this morning as storms moved in from Alabama. The total stood at 1.8 inches this morning.
Today’s forecast calls for numerous showers and thunderstorms and a 60 percent chance of rain today and 30 percent tonight.
There also is a 60 percent chance of rain Thursday and Friday, with rain possible for the rest of the week.
Meanwhile, several thousand people in the Savannah area were without electricity Tuesday after powerful thunderstorms toppled trees and power lines on the coast.
Georgia Power said crews worked to restore power Tuesday afternoon to about 4,400 customers in Chatham County. The utility had hoped to have all lights back on by evening, but Monroe said limbs continuing to fall from damaged trees were slowing efforts.
About 21,000 homes and businesses were blacked out Monday night after storms pounded Chatham, Bryan and Effingham counties with heavy wind and rain. More than 100 Georgia Power crews repaired damage Tuesday.
The National Weather Services said the storms dumped 1 to 3 inches of rain on the Savannah area, causing some flash flooding.
